Up until I began this class I thought that I had a fairly good knowledge of wine. After watching the first couple videos and diving into the readings I have learned that I was sadly mistaken. Although I am a bartender at a fairly nice steakhouse with a decent wine menu, I am still very clueless when it comes to wine! However one thing I do know is when the wine has gone bad, yuck! A lot of my experience with wine has come from this steakhouse, I have also learned many great steaks and desserts to pair with different types of wines.
My other experiences outside of the restaurant are not pretty memories. Box wines, jug wine, you name it! If it was under 20 dollars and could get my girlfriends and I drunk and singing “strawberry wine” by Deana Carter before 9:00 it had our names all over it. Now that I have grown up and matured from those times I stick mainly to bottled wine and preferably just a slight buzz.

I use to really enjoy sweet white wines, I have since expanded my palette, and now I really enjoy red wines, preferably blends or cabernets. A couple of wines that I am not quite on board with are merlot and Malbec, I do look forward to hopefully gaining more knowledge and enhancing my tastebuds to enjoy one of these glasses in the near future.
